Why The Bible Seems Foolish

Just because something is not understood, does not mean it is foolish.  I cannot understand when someone speaks in a language that is foreign to me.  That doesn’t make them foolish or me foolish - it just means, I don’t understand what they are saying.

That’s the way it is with the Bible.

1 Corinthians 2:14 New King James Version (NKJV)

"But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

There is a simple explanation why not everybody can understand the Bible.  It is because the Bible is the Word of God, which is a Spirit.  Therefore, the only way to understand a spiritual experience is by being spiritual.

If we’re not reading the words through a spiritual lens, the text will seem foolish and will make no sense.

Such is the dilemma with the natural man.  Because he is not operating in the realm of the Spirit, he just can’t know the things of the Spirit (the Bible).

I’ve discovered a workaround to this problem.  I just needed to be born of the Spirit, or born again.

Jesus enlightened a man named Nicodemus in John chapter 3 and verses 6 and 7, by telling him, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Do not marvel that I said to you, You must be born again”.

Once we are born of the Spirit, the Bible no longer seems foolish.  In fact, it begins to make perfect sense.

John chapter 3 is one of the most quoted portions of scripture in the entire Bible.
