It might go down in history as the greatest ask ever.
The wisdom of King Solomon was legendary. He was so wise that when God appeared to him in a dream and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you,” Solomon answered that he wanted a discerning heart. (1 Kings 3:5-9).
1 Kings 4:29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and...understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 He was wiser than anyone else...And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.
There is no debating that Solomon was intelligent and wise. Because of his wisdom, he became famous, and his fame spread to all of the surrounding nations. This alone is quite a feat considering there was no television, Google, Facebook, or any other social media platform - just word of mouth. Solomon was more popular than Doctor Oz, Doctor Phil, Doogie Howser, and Marcus Welby M.D., combined.
We live in the information age. Technology has accelerated the pace at which we can both send and receive information. Information is knowledge, but knowledge is not necessarily wisdom.
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.
It would make sense that because we have access to the writings of Solomon, we would be wise to have a look and see what he wrote. He authored part of the Bible. Credited to him are the books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon. He wrote over a thousand songs and three thousand proverbs. He built the first ever Temple for God, a magnificent structure. King Solomon was extraordinary. We have access to his writings and wisdom, and we can read about the results of his decision making.
It’s time to wise up and dig into the Bible. Let’s learn from the best.
I want to take this a step farther. We have access to the entire Bible. We have access to the very Word of God. But not only do we have access to the wisdom of Solomon, we have access to the One who gave Solomon his wisdom. We have access to God himself.
The greatest answer to the greatest ask is, “I want and need wisdom.”
With all you’re getting: Get Wisdom.
